Learn how to approach this sensitive topic with your students and promote tolerance toward people who suffer from mental illness. Participants will be introduced to “Breaking the Silence: Teaching the Next Generation about Mental Illness”, innovative lessons designed to confront the myths and stereotypes that surround mental illness. Through stories, games, and posters students will learn the warning signs of mental illness and the value of early detection and treatment. Longer workshops will be participatory and give attendees an opportunity to practice using BTS. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore strategies that encourage students and their parents to seek help.
Classroom Presentation: 45 Minutes - $75.00 1½ Hours - $150.00
Classroom demonstration of BTS includes lessons, games, stories and student participation. (Grades 4-12) Through stories, discussion, and role plays students will develop compassion for students who through no fault of their own suffer from a mental illness. They will also learn the warning signs of the major psychiatric disorders.
College Presentation: 45 Minutes - $75.00 1½ Hours - $150.00
This class explains the importance of mental illness education for the next generation of educators. Students learn how to implement BTS in the classroom. Appropriate for all future teachers/school professionals.
All presenters are certified teachers or administrators and BTS trained. Lesson plans are not included. They can be purchased from BTS for $20.00 per grade level/ or $55.00 for a set of all 3 grade levels: upper elementary, middle and high school.
